Questlove’s ‘Summer of Soul’ Wins at Independent Spirit Awards
Questlove’s summer of soul captivated viewers this summer with a doc film about a little known concert going on in Harlem, New York , in the summer of 1969.
That year was a special year in a special time. It was the same year as the 1st start of the infamous Woodstock festival. Summer of Soul covers the acts that were invited that year.
Acts such as Nina Simone, B.B. King, the 5th Dimension, the Staple Singers, Stevie Wonder, The Edwin Hawkins Singers, Bootsy Collins and more all performed. The fest lasted 6 weeks.
The doc examines all of the footage that was found and restored by Questlove and others, it was narrated by many that were witness to the event. Make sure you view it. You can see it on Hulu.
